Good Company

Jane Austen in Persuasion writes:

"... my idea of good company, Mr. Eliot,
is the fellowship of clever
well informed people
who have a great deal of conversation
and liberality of ideas
that is what I call good company."

Mr. Eliot replies, "That is not good company,
that is the best. Good company
requires only birth, education and manners."

On Being Discovered

more on hendrix:

many artists intensely greedy for notoriety
wish to be discovered by big promoters
so they can "make it" to the top

after receiving a minor tour through "heaven"
they sign away everything including their own will
then they must go to work
to make the devil rich and happy
realizing they have betrayed the spirit for a minute of fame
after a few tours from hell
they are unable to remain creative
but they have a contract
and to reneg on this contract may lead to grave misfortune

the bondage which follows
often results in severe depression and death:

jimi hendrix
chas chandler
michael jeffreys
noel redding
billy cox
monika danneman

they were one tight famous association
... were

now where are they?

Old Age OD

after making their doctors rich
most old folks
die of a drug overdose
quite confused

jimi expressed the truth
and was assassinated
quite clearly
