when a person says
i don't want to listen to you any more

that is precisely the point
at which you need to have something intelligent to say

say

O.K. ... tell me ... why?

if the person still refuses to speak to you:

Ask, "Do you know why?" and you had best leave it at that.
Remain present and calm exhibiting great under-standing,
the weaker person will usually walk away.
If the weaker person remains
you need to run in the opposite direction
because you may have sorely misjudged the situation.
Strange folly will ensue.
