people are naturally timid and self conscious in crowds and groups

why

i think because the average person
has a deeply profound sense of need
for friendship and caring
that the reserve, hypocrisy and insincerity of others
challenges the emotions
and makes us react anxiously
rather than respond lovingly

those who love Christ, however
grow out of this fear
